The famous singer “Justin Bieber” was detained in Florida in January 2014 on suspicion of driving under the effect and drag racing in a residential area of Miami Beach. He was supposedly in a rented yellow Lamborghini. The singer said he had taken anti-depressants, drank a beer and was smoking marijuana the whole day, according to police sources. “The pop star was confused, was driving without a valid license and resisted arrest without violence.” said Miami Beach Police Chief Raymond Martinex.
Justin’s consequences were as follows: he was set free an hour after arriving in jail, charged with a $2,500 fine and attendance to anger management sessions. His license was not taken from him!!! However, a Non-celebrity consequence would have been a minimum of 4 days (6 months maximum) in jail, $1,000 fine, plus penalties and a license suspension for 6 months.
Moreover, it is believed that celebrities get to stay in different areas of the jail to be alone. They are also protected from all the dangers that an ordinary prisoner would be exposed to. Jake Minsinger, a 37-year-old welder from Hanover, Pa says: “They definitely get special treatment, usually, they’re all surrounded by security. When they show up in court they’re well dressed and instead of a public defender, they have a team of the most expensive lawyers in the country.”
The consequences of Justin’s crime versus an ordinary person’s same crime show how flexible laws and judges are on celebrities.
You think Smoking marijuana or drinking alcohol while driving is illegal? You are absolutely mistaken because that’s not the case if you are celebrity! Unfortunately, laws are easier on famous people more than we think, even during court trials they are not treated as ordinary people are.
