Stories usually start with an event that sparks the whole chain of events, but to be honest my life is pretty boring. Nothing really event-sparky happens. My name is Kylee and I’d like to say I’m just a normal 13 year old girl. I have wavy brown hair and dark brown eyes, almost like chocolate. Pretty normal right? Well I haven’t told you the full story. To put this lightly I’m not human, or rather not full human. I know it sounds really crazy, that’s because it is. Look, my DNA is infused with a dog. Pretty comic book-y stuff, I know.

I don’t really believe in luck or bad luck, but if I did I’d say my life is pretty lucky so far. I had a nice house and a loving family. We had two pets, my brother’s annoying gerbil and our family’s dog. Her name was Sunflower. We named her this because she looked sweet and innocent. She also looks exactly like the character Angel from Lady and The Tramp. Well not exactly, but pretty close.

Like all other days, it was pretty normal, whatever the normal is. I think I don’t know anymore, wait I’m getting off track. I had volunteered to walk Sunflower. We had reached the curve when Sunflower pulled ahead, right towards the heardling car. The man tried to stop the car as soon as he could, but it was too late. The car had hit Sunflower and supposedly me.

I woke up strapped to something, so obviously without thinking I screamed. The thing is my screams came out weird, almost like a bark or a shriveled up one. That’s when I noticed something was off, something was very off. Some things you can’t explain how they happened, they just happen. I want to know why me. There are like a trillion hundred people in this world. It’s been nagging at me. Because honestly I don’t want to be some superhero. I just want to be Kylee Mores, the expert in doodling, but I’ll never be that girl anymore.

I had woken up from my dreamless sleep and stretched my unused muscles. I raised my head to look at the same months old garbage that someone had carelessly forgot about. I’ll admit it’s not the best spot, but if your running from something, you try not to be known. I clasped my wrinkled up bag and sat up. Pulled up into a bun was my hair, which I slipped my sweatshirt over. I flipped on my hood and started out. The sun had hidden behind the gloomy clouds and snow fell like sugar sprinkled into coffee. I couldn’t help, but stick out my tongue hoping to catch a flake.

Winter is my favorite season, in my opinion it’s better than Summer. Yes there is no school and less people asking why your not in school, but it is so so hot. Not that I have anything against hot days, the cold just calms me. Plus the snow is so pretty and great to frolik in. I kept my head down and started walking. It wasn’t a strange site to see since I “lived” in the suburbs. I like walking, taking in the beautiful scenery I would have never seen if I didn’t walk. But, the jangles in my pocket remind me of the new bike I was saving up to buy. Pennies I had found here or there and money I had gotten from my playing sessions downtown. I had found a beaten ukulele and repaired it. Took forever though and even longer to learn.
